  • Seniority List Issue

Dear Members,

I know that the membership has had questions regarding the seniority list issue. I am including in this e-line the letter of explanation from Council 70 President, Terry Graf.

I feel that this is a concise and clear explanation of the events. If any of Council 89 members have any further questions after reading this, please feel free to contact me.

In Solidarity,

Cathy

From AFA 70 Philadelphia:

Dear Fellow Philadelphia Flight Attendants,

Last month, I received numerous requests regarding what a person's relative seniority would be in the PHX base should the contract pass, and transfers be open in June.  For many commuters this is an important item to consider and I felt it to be a reasonable request.  Line Flight Attendants and other AFA representatives approached PHX Council 66 to try and obtain the seniority information first and were unsuccessful. I then went to the Company, and was informed that I should request this from the Seniority Integration Committee for AFA. I was further informed that this was an outdated list as it had been complied some 5 years ago.

The list was very outdated, but I could at least tell people verbally should they inquire, where they may fall in a transfer.  The LEC Presidents of AFA 70, 89 and 41 were sent the list that I had requested in one email containing an Excel file attachment. I only forwarded this information to Council Rep, Rick Cangey who was assisting me in obtaining this information for our Flight Attendants, no one else. When it was discovered that Social Security numbers had inadvertently been included, AFA immediately began internal protocols to make sure that all copies were deleted from all computers. There was never a breach of your most confidential information.  It remained within the confines of AFA-CWA and every officer is under strict confidentiality agreements.

There was never any malicious intent or hidden agenda in the request of this information.  The lists were removed and destroyed from AFA-CWA computers.  Attached is a copy of the letter from the International Secretary Treasure on the matter with the results from their investigation.

Respectfully,

Terry Graf

Dear US Airways Member:

Recently it was brought to our attention that a company file containing seniority information was sent to the US Airways Local Presidents.  The file was requested in the course of normal business by a Local President who wanted to examine the seniority dates on it.

Upon notice that social security numbers of members were included in the file, we immediately exercised our internal protocols to ensure that this sensitive information remained protected.  Protection of members' information is critically important to our union and we take this issue seriously.  All recipients were contacted the day transmittal of this file was discovered, and all were informed that the file in question must be deleted.

The recipients acknowledged receipt, and most importantly, confirmed that the file in question was indeed deleted.  Further, assurances were received that no copies of the information were made and nothing was distributed.

We want to be exceptionally clear that no personal information was divulged and none was compromised.

In Solidarity,
