Potential Merger and
Our Contract
Dear Members,
Potential Merger and
Our Contract
I just got off a conference call with the Local Council
Presidents from the East and the West, along with our
AFA International Officers, our Collective Bargaining
Director and our General Counsel. I want you to know
your local officers are fully engaged and everyone at
every level of our union is working together for the
best outcome for us in the event of another merger or
any other scenario.
As I'm sure you've read or heard by now, a joint
statement was released by the three largest unions
representing American Airlines workers regarding their
support of a merger with US Airways. If you haven't had
a chance to see the message from both MECs this morning,
please review it now at www.afausairways.org.
I know you will have many questions as this information
unfolds. It will be very tempting to speculate on the
details swirling in the media and other communication
platforms. It is important that we make decisions based
only on facts. We will provide you with the factual
information and it's important to avoid rumor and
speculation. We need to stay focused on getting a
contract with protections and improvements prior to any
new merger deal. Look for your contract survey
information to arrive in the mail and please enter your
survey responses right away. Also, plan to attend our
Town Hall meeting on May 9th at 1100. Our meeting will
be held at the Doubletree located at 2600 Yorkmont Rd.
Currently, we are in the process of setting up a website
that can be utilized by all US Airways Flight Attendants
whether you are based in PHX, CLT, PHL or DCA. We will
be collecting your questions and regularly posting
answers on this website. Look for another email from the
two MECs in the next 24 hours with more information on
this and how you can submit questions.
The American Flight Attendants have been going through a
very challenging time with American in bankruptcy. We
can all empathize with them and show them our support.
Our union has also been in contact with APFA.
In closing, I encourage everyone to remember who we are
and what we do. We are in this together and we can
achieve the best results together. Thank you for all you
do, I am always here for you and representing you.
In Solidarity,
Cathy
