UPDATED - MAY 2012 "DROP DEAD" BULLETIN
Dear Members,
UPDATED - MAY 2012 "DROP DEAD" BULLETIN
Once again,
we are posting information related to drop dead times. Please read the entire
e-line, as we have added more information to help you determine a correct "drop
dead" time. Please print a copy of this document and take it with you on all
your trips.
DOMESTIC, NTI, AND
INTERNATIONAL DUTY TIME LIMITATIONS
Contract pages 10-2, 3 and
12-1, 2
Domestic and NTI
pairings have a duty time limitation of up to 15 hours and TI
pairings have a duty time limitation of up to 16
hours.
The three
formulas below are to be used when your last flight of the day or only flight of
the day is delayed.
Remember for
a domestic pairing, your duty day begins one hour before scheduled
departure with a +15 debrief and for
NTI and TI
pairings, it is 1+30 prior to scheduled departure with a +30 debrief.
1. Domestic: check in time, plus 14:45, minus published
scheduled
flight time = drop dead time
2. NTI:
check in time, plus 14:30, minus
published scheduled flight
time = drop dead time
3. Transoceanic
International (TI):
check in time, plus 15:30, minus published scheduled
flight time = drop dead time
For your one
day island turn, use the following formula to determine when you would be
illegal to leave CLT. It will be helpful if you have a copy of the published
pairing (on Wings) or a printed pairing from option 4 (CATCREW) as they both
show your scheduled time on duty.
NTI:
15+00 (MAX duty time)
minus published scheduled on duty time = allowable delay. Add the allowable
delay amount to the scheduled departure time, and that will give you the
drop dead time.
SXM example:
Your SXM one day has a scheduled duty day of 11 hours and a departure time of
09:30.
For example 15:00 (maximum duty
time)
- 11:00 (scheduled duty)
4:00 (allowable delay)
Therefore:
09:30 (scheduled departure)
+ 4:00
13:30 (drop dead time)
Drop Dead
time reminders, using 0030 as the drop dead time:
If you push back at 0029
(one minute before your drop dead time) and sit on the ramp, the de-icing pad or
the taxi-way for a while, you are STILL LEGAL to complete this trip.
1. If the
aircraft door has closed and the brakes are released at 0030, you are STILL
LEGAL to complete this trip. CATCREW will show you illegal at 0031.
2. When
scheduling/systems sends out the replacement crew, you may be required to remain
at the airport or on the aircraft with passengers until the new crew arrives.
Even though you are illegal to continue the trip, you can still be required to
be available for up to your maximum duty day.
3. If you have
been notified by crew scheduling before you check-in of a posted
departure delay, please use the formula above and the new departure time to
recalculate your legalities.
You can find the
Refreshing Rest newsletter on our Charlotte page located on the
afausairways.org site. This article has useful information to help you with
scheduling issues that might occur.
