Flight 1549 UPDATE

All of the crewmembers of Flight 1549 are safely at their homes. The crew included:

Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger a 29 year veteran who began his airline career with PSA

First Officer Jeffrey B. Skiles, joined US Airways (USAir) in 1986.

Flight Attendant Sheila Dail joined US Airways (Piedmont Airlines) in 1980 and has more than 28 years experience with the airline.

Flight Attendant Doreen Welsh joined US Airways (Allegheny Airlines) in 1970 and has more than 38 years experience with the airline.

Flight Attendant Donna Dent joined US Airways (Piedmont Airlines) in 1982 and has more than 26 years experience with the airline.

The events of last Thursday were both unforgettable and remarkable. The NTSB investigation is underway and the crew has given their preliminary statements. AFA received permission to participate in the investigation. MEC Safety Chair, Barrington Johnson, was appointed to the Survival Factors Group.

While the investigation will take time, we know experience played a vital role in the outcome. The Flight Attendant crew had over 90 years of collective experience and the cockpit crew over 50 years. That is a lot of training and dedication to the profession.

Information is somewhat restricted by the NTSB investigation and the Union is providing as much information as we can.

As Flight Attendants, we all do this job for different reasons but- we all know the primary reason we are onboard is to save lives.

Many of you have written asking how you can get a message to the crew expressing your thoughts and appreciation. For the time being, the crew has requested that any messages be sent to the AFA MEC Office. We will make sure the Flight Attendants receive your messages.

The AFA MEC Office address is:

The US Airways MEC
205 Regency Executive Park Drive- Suite 310
Charlotte, NC 28217

As you might imagine the media is on a relentless quest to get their hands on the crew. Media request will be handled by the Union until further notice.

Thank you,

Mike Flores, President
The US Airways Master Executive Council
AFA-CWA
