Dear fellow Flight
Attendants,
It is with great pleasure that I am able to inform you of some of the most recent developments regarding the LGA base. First and foremost I would like to share with you the information received in a July 23 telephone conversation with Capt. Leo Guerrero who is holding the title of ALPA Captain Representative representing the Captains in the LGA base. Leo and I have been working closely to meet the various requests of our respective memberships. One of the most important issues brought before us was the "lack of one day flying in LGA". First of all, Mr. Chip Mayer representing the pilots happens to be our most influential advocate in the building of lines of flying for the bases. Chip has been aware of our desire for increased one day flying as we all know LGA has grown so accustomed to having been strictly a "Shuttle" base. I am pleased to inform you that LGA will be enjoying a significant increase of one day flying effective the upcoming pilot bid as discussed in a July 21 telephone conversation between Chip Mayer and Leo Guerrero. Please be aware it has been indicated to me that the one day flying may not be exclusively "Shuttle" flying but rather one day flying. That is not to say there will not be Shuttle flying but simply not exclusively. I feel this is a very positive change for the benefit of many flight attendants and pilots in LGA. who have written and petitioned our respective Unions expressing their frustration due to the reduced amount of one day flying that we enjoyed. in the past. This enhancement was accomplished through communication between the labor groups and interaction with Chip Mayer who brilliantly presented the company with a program which would dedicate 12 airplanes to this one day flying program, much like the concept utilized by the "Shuttle " product in the past. Mr. Mayer also demonstrated the significant cost savings this provides the company by reducing RON costs for flight crews. The calculated cost savings demonstrated are said to be in excess of 1,000,000 annually. This is a win win situation for USAirways as well as ALPA and AFA. I will advise you accordingly of any changes or updates as they become available to me.
I have not forgotten the desire the flight attendant group has to gain ramp access and I will continue to explore any options that would support our claim in this security issue. I have been told that the issue of complying with the TSA regulations in entering security is under the jurisdiction of the Port Authority as well as TSA (Homeland Security). Terri O'Leary has indicated that Ms. Sherry Groff ,Vice Pres. Inflight Services and Ms. Cheryl Lendvay, Director Inflight Services would not support and take on this issue on behalf of the flight attendant group. I have been requested to attend a Focus meeting with Ms. Groff and other Inflight personnel and I will bring this issue to their attention once again. as I realize this to be a moral booster, one which we are so desperately in need of. I would appreciate any feedback from you of any issues you have a desire to be discussed in the Focus meeting, i.e. Aircraft Cleaning, or any other base specific topics
FLY SAFE!!!!!!
In Solidarity,
