CREW ACCOMMODATIONS NEWS - May 2012
5/1/2012
Effective May 1, 2012 we will be staying in new hotels in both FCO & MAD.
As mentioned in previous e-lines, this company will only sign contracts with hotels for 2 years. At the end of 2 years, they either re-sign with the incumbent hotel or site the area through an outside broker. Once the broker and company buyer have chosen which hotels to site, an AFA representative and a USAPA representative accompany them on the site inspection. Your AFA crew accommodations representative on the site inspection then prepares a report and rates the hotels sited in order of preference according to the parameters of our contract language. (Sect. 4-2)
MAD – Of the hotels sited, the company signed with AFA’s third choice. This hotel is still in downtown MAD, albeit a different area from where we have been for the past number of years. Corporate Security visited this area and deemed it safe and quite a few other airlines have moved to this area recently. Although we realize change can be difficult, we found this to be an acceptable crew hotel according to the standards of our Collective Bargaining Agreement.
FCO – We will be moving to another central Rome location. This was our first choice in Rome because, of all the hotels sited, it was the ONLY one actually in Rome. Two were in the suburbs and two were at the airport, none of which satisfied our contract language.
In neither city were our incumbent hotels included in our site inspections.
I understand many of our members feel we should have a greater say in where we overnight. I agree so, if you feel as strongly about this as do I, may I respectfully suggest you reflect that in your survey responses to the JNC regarding upcoming negotiations.
